CWS Kits

Presbyterian Women Issue Kits Challenge

Presbyterian Women in Blackhawk Presbytery joins you and your congregation in celebrating the tremendous and growing participation in Kits challenges! Together we continue to make powerful statements about how we care for people when they are in desperate situations.

To continue this witness, Presbyterian Women is issuing another challenge. Will you respond generously?

Background:
The Church World Service warehouse has committed to send hundreds of thousands of School Kits to children in developing countries over the next year, to encourage them and their families to start or continue their education. However, the quantities in the warehouse are less than what is needed.

Weather emergencies in the U.S. have left many people with huge clean-up projects in their own homes and neighborhoods. Church World Service has sent thousands of Emergency Clean-up Buckets around the U.S. More are needed to replace the stock, to be ready for the next emergencies.

The Challenge:
All kinds of CWS Kits are welcome, but… Can EACH congregation in Blackhawk Presbytery make at least 15 School Kits? Want to go the extra mile? Please make an Emergency Clean-up Bucket or two, in addition!

If each congregation participates, we’ll have at least 1,200 School Kits! And who know how many Clean-up Buckets!
Get kit instructions and promotional materials here or call the regional office at 888.297.2767.  Staff members are available to speak to groups about where and how the Kits are used around the world.

Plan now, and take advantage of back-to-school sales in August. Is your congregation great at making the bags for the school kits? Or does your congregation need bags for the school kits? Please contact Bev Scharlau at 815.667.4970 and she’ll connect you.

Bring the kits, in boxes, to the November Presbytery meeting at Stronghold, November 8-9 and CWS will get them to the warehouse free of charge. A donation of $2 per School Kit or Bucket will help get the items from the warehouse to those in need. Checks may be made out to CWS and can be brought to Stronghold.

Any questions? Contact Julia Jones at 630.990.7441.

On behalf of PW in Blackhawk, and the many who will feel our love, thank you for participating!
