Soul Shop Seminar

Monday, November 13, 2017
9 am - 4 pm
The Castle at Stronghold Camp & Retreat Center
1922 N. IL Rte. 2, Oregon, IL 61061

WHAT IS SOUL SHOP? (from their website:

The Soul Shop™ Movement exists due to the need of desperately hurting people to be heard, noticed, and seen within their faith communities. Soul Shop™ provides training and support to faith community leaders. At any given time, 1 in 17 adults (according to Living Works) and 1 in 6 youth (CDC Report) are considering suicide.

Suicide reaches into people’s lives in multiple ways: through the death or suicide attempt of a loved one, through their own former or current suicidal thinking, or through worries about others going through hard times. At this moment, 1 out of 2 people in most congregations are personally impacted by the reality of suicide. Many congregations experience deaths to suicide among their own members, skyrocketing the impact to 100% of the congregation.

Soul Shop™ recognizes that most congregations are not equipped to adequately respond to this need. As a result, we seek to equip congregations in responding to desperation. With them, we hope to catalyze regional networks that create soul safe communities.

PLEASE JOIN US  for a one-day Soul Shop™ for Leaders training event designed to equip faith community leaders to minister to those impacted by suicidal desperation. This core training offers strategies and resources for clergy, staff, lay leaders, deacons and Stephen Ministers as they develop soul-safe communities where those affected by suicide are supported and welcomed.

The seminar includes the creation of worship resources, training congregation members in suicide awareness and basic conversation skills, and the invitation to those who have been suicidal in the past to share their stories.

Blackhawk Presbytery is pleased to host this training for members of the Presbytery and other faith leaders. Registration is now open to all on a first come, first served basis. The seminar will be offered at Stronghold Camp & Retreat Center in the Great Hall of the Castle (map).  Lunch, beverages and snacks are included in the $40 registration fee.
Sorry, the Castle has stairs and is not handicap accessible.

Sunday or Monday overnight accommodations are also available at Stronghold in either Heritage Lodge or Sears Center. A Monday evening dinner in the dining room will also be available to registrants. Please see the Registration + Lodging Form below for more information.
