2018 CWS Kits Challenge

Thank you to all the churches who assembled kits this year. As of Nov. 20, the Presbytery has donated 1040 School kits, 963 Hygiene Kits and 63 Emergency clean-up buckets. Well done everyone!

Thanks also the helpers who received and loaded and to Woodstock First Presbyterian for their trailer once again. IF you brought kits directly to Elgin, please let us know the quantities delivered so we can include them in our overall totals.

To all churches in Blackhawk Presbytery:

The Presbyterian Women of Joliet Westminster are issuing this challenge for 2018.    WILL EACH CONGREGATION MAKE AT LEAST….

We have learned from Church World Service there is great need for HYGIENE KITS at this time!  Whatever kits and amounts you are able to provide are greatly appreciated!

Kit brochures with details for all three kits will be available at Presbytery meetings or can be ordered from the Church World Service website,  If your church group is sewing the School Kit bags, they should be made of solid-colored fabric with no logos or the bags can be purchased thru

Your kits will be collected at the November Presbytery meeting at JOLIET WESTMINSTER.  Please bring the kits in SEALED boxes, marked with the name and address of your church and the kind and quantity of kits inside – school kits and hygiene kits need to be in separate boxes.  Clean-up buckets do not need to be in boxes, but should have the name and address of your church taped to the outside. (You may copy and use the label below).  Please tape the buckets closed.  A gift of $2.00 per kit ($3.00 for buckets) made out to Church World Service can be brought in November.(Coupon on back).  These funds help get the kits into the hands of those in need.

At the September & November 2017 Presbytery meetings, the kits were collected and taken by CWS for sorting and distribution to those in need.  Because of the great need for Clean-Up Buckets at the time, many of you had them ready and brought them to the September meeting to expedite getting them to those in need. Total kits received in 2017 – 1502 school kits, 622 hygiene kits and 264 clean-up buckets. Many of you continue to exceed the challenge amounts – let’s try to increase our totals in 2018!!  CWS is so grateful to all in Blackhawk Presbytery for being a part of this world wide ministry!!
