2016 November Presbytery Meeting

A Stated Meeting of the Presbytery of Blackhawk was held November 8, 2016 at Stronghold Camp and Retreat Center.
Blackhawk welcomed Rev. Jan Edmiston, Co-Moderator of the 222nd General Assembly and Associate Executive Presbyter for the Presbytery of Chicago. She led a "First Things First" seminar on Monday centered around understanding cultures within the church and identifying the reasons why and how 'we do what we do', Edmiston also joined with Rev. Julie Raffety, outgoing Moderator, in leading the worship service, and engaged the commissioners in a brief Q&A. The Co-Moderators, Rev. Denise Anderson and Rev. Edmiston have encouraged Presbyterians to engage our church's and nation's current racial dialogue, perhaps by reading and discussing the book "Waking Up White" by Debby Irving.

Rev. Mike Selburg was elected Moderator of Blackhawk Presbytery for the upcoming year and was installed along with a full slate of Board and Committee members and Moderators. The Presbytery celebrated the 20th anniversary of the Partnership with the Imenti Presbyteries of Kenya with a slide presentation and dedication of a white oak seedling on the grounds of Stronghold. The ten members of a Mission Team travelling to Kenya in January of 2017 were also commissioned.
